An appeal court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the right to hold its national convention.
This was after panel of three judges led by Justice Haruna Tsammani dismissed an application filed by a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, seeking to stop the party’s special convention slated for Saturday, October 30, 2021.
Secondus, in an appeal marked CA/PH/ 339, had asked the court to restrain PDP from conducting its national convention.
The embattled former chairman was edged out following his feud with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
Secondus had through his Lawyer, Tayo Oyetubo, prayed the court to suspend the convention and grant him the right to preside over the exercise.

However, the panel found no merit in Mr Secondus’ appeal saying he voluntarily forfeited his office since he did not challenge his removal at ward and local government levels.
With the ruling, the coast is now clear for the convention where a successor will be duly elected to replace Secondus.
The PDP had said it would go on with its congress, as the governors elected under the platform of the party are shopping for consensus candidates for the various offices of the party.
