After much speculation, Squid Game creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has announced that the Netflix series would have a second season.
On Tuesday, November 9th, Dong-hyuk revealed the news in an interview with AP. He explained that the sequel was necessitated due to the high demand and positive response to the first season’s release.

He said the second season is now in the planning process and that the lead actor, Gi-Hun, will return and accomplish something for the world.
Hwang however did not give a date for season two’s premiere. “I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen,” he said. “So I will promise you this, Gi-hun will come back. He will do something for the world.” “So, there’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice,” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said.
“But, I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.”

Squid Game became a worldwide sensation, attracting 111 million viewers just 17 days after its premiere on September 17.
The nine-episode series is Netflix’s most popular series ever, with over 100 million views.
