Donald Trump was detained and arraigned, just days after a federal grand jury indicted him on June 13th.

On Friday, the 49-page indictment was unsealed, revealing 37 counts against the former president, including willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, withholding a document or record, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheme to conceal, and false statements and representations.

Each charge carries a possible punishment ranging from five to twenty years in jail, and if convicted, could result in decades in prison.

The hearings proceeded in the same manner as when Trump appeared in Manhattan court in early April to face criminal charges stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s investigation into hush money leading up to the 2016 election.


They did not take a mugshot of the former president because he is recognisable, nor did they place him in handcuffs. After about 45 minutes, Mr. Trump pled “not guilty” and left the courthouse to return to his home in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Mr. Trump’s feud with the administration he oversaw from January 2017 until January 2021. At times, the ex-president has claimed that he used his broad classification and declassification authority to declassify any material he brought with him to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

There is no proof that such an order was ever made, and Mr. Trump is reported to have admitted in audio recordings collected by prosecutors that he did not declassify certain papers that were in his possession long after his authorization to keep them had ended.

“If Mr. Trump is convicted, the Department of Justice will almost certainly seek his incarceration”. Kel McClanahan, a national security lawyer and law professor at George Washington University, stated.

According to Insider, law professor Kel McClanahan believes the government will “want to go for incarceration” in the case of Mr. Trump. He stated that the information in the indictment is designed to demonstrate that Mr. Trump “is a kingpin who knowingly broke the law, endangered national security, endangered nuclear weapon security, and endangered the national security of other countries’.

The indictment was revealed, Fox News legal analyst Jonathan Turley didn’t hold back. He stated that the indictment is quite damaging and is intended to demonstrate the breadth of the evidence.

The Special Counsel anticipated that many people would complain that the Department of Justice was operating improperly.
