Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has selected a University lecturer, Prof. Grace Umezurike, as Secretary to the State Government (SSG). Umezuruike is the first woman to be chosen SSG in the state’s history.

Nwifuru made the announcement over the weekend in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor. The SSG will be sworn in on Tuesday at the State Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Ochudu Centenary City Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, according to Uzor.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has approved Prof. Grace Umezurike’s appointment as Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government, with immediate effect.

She will be sworn in on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023, the statement continued. In the meantime, until her appointment, Prof. Umezuruike was a lecturer in the department of Philosophy at Ebonyi State University and the wife of the previous Commissioner for Health in Umahi’s administration for eight years.

Before her appointment, Nwifuru succeeded David Umahi, also of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the March 18 governorship election and was inaugurated on May 29 alongside other newly elected and reelected governors of Nigeria states, including Umezuruike. She is the former wife of David Umahi’s former Commissioner for Health.

The announcement was announced in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, and made available to journalists on Friday night.
