Ekpoma is in uproar when a police van runs over a demobilized suspect after being handcuffed and stripped of his clothings.

On Friday evening, a police van ran over a suspect who had been apprehended, handcuffed, and forced to lie half-clothed in the university town of Ekpoma in Edo State’s Esan West Local Government Area.

Despite the alarm made by members of the community gathered around the vehicle, a squad of cops using an official black Sienna bus provided by the Edo State Government forcibly dragged the already detained middle-aged guy.

The driver of the police vehicle unlocked the van door and escaped after dragging the immobile suspect for many meters, according to a 27-minute video of the incident.

On Saturday morning, the video became viral.
Onlookers gathered around the handcuffed man lying on the ground in front of the police truck in the video.

The driver then proceeded to crush and drag the man for more than 100 meters while ignoring the crowd’s cries.

The act apparently prompted a commotion among the enraged audience, which was shortly dispersed by police bullets.

In response to the event, Edo State Police Command spokesman Chidi Nwabuzor issued a press statement announcing the arrest of the accused officers.

He also claimed that the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, had issued a call to calm down.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) issued the following statement:

The Edo State Police Command wishes to notify the general public that it is aware of the situation on social media, showing some police officers in a Sienna vehicle used for police patrol driving over a young man who was restrained.

Preliminary findings indicate that on Friday, ASP Magdalene Osayande reported at Ekpoma Divisional Police Headquarters, Ekpoma, Edo State, that,  while on routine stop and search duty with her team of six (6) policemen along Ihumudumu Road, Ekpoma, Edo State, they intercepted the driver of an unregistered Lexus car and requested the vehicle’s particulars.
