After the tragic explosion, relatives gather outside an Ankara factory. At least five workers were killed in a blast at an explosives factory in Ankara, Turkey’s capital, the defense ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The explosion occurred at the MKE Rocket and Explosives Factory, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) outside of Ankara. “According to technical staff, there was an explosion in the dynamite department of the factory as a result of a chemical experiment,” Vahap Sahin, the governor of Ankara province, told reporters.

“Unfortunately, five workers have died, and our condolences go to their families,” Sahin said. In a subsequent statement, Turkey’s defense ministry verified the death toll. “There were five other workers under the rubble who we were able to save.”
According to official media, injured plant workers have been transferred to hospitals, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated. According to state media, among the injured there were persons said to be in critical condition.
