The Ghana Police have arrested 26 Nigerians for allegedly engaging in internet fraud and other cyber related offences.

According to Ghanaian journalist, Jacob Kubi, the Deputy Police commander, Amaning Oduro said they raided three houses and arrested the Nigerians numbering 26 with two being females, following an intelligence they received.

“The police said they retrieved 31 laptops, 26 mobile phones, five machetes and substances suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspects. The suspects are expected to be screened, and those found culpable would be processed to court,” he said.

“Central East Police Commander, DCOP Okyere Boapeah, added that Kasoa is gaining notoriety as a result of the activities of some Nigerians.

“DCOP Boapeah also said Ghanaian landlords should not hesitate in reporting would-be Nigerian tenants to immigration officials before renting out to them.”

Some Nigerians have recently accused the Ghanaian authorities of harassment.

They asked the Nigerian government to look into the treatment of Nigerians in Ghana over police harassment and extortion in the country.

“My apartment has been raided by the Ghana Police four times in less than a year. Whatever reason you think for this. It’s worse! The apartment used to be occupied by some Nigerian men who were tired of being harassed by the police,” a Nigerian posted on Facebook earlier in the month.

“Police officers extort thousands of Cedis from Nigerians, then let them go and later return to raid and extort money from them again. Nigerians have become easy preys for the Ghana police. Nigerians have become a cash cow for Ghanaian authorities.”
