Governor Of Abia State Comments On Simon Ekpa's Sit-In Order

Governor of Abia state, Alex Otti has stated that the state cannot afford to heed a contentious two-week sit-at-home order issued by a section of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator and leader of Autopilot, an IPOB subgroup, had declared a two-week sit-in in the region, beginning on July 31 and ending on August 11.

According to the governor’s spokeswoman, Kazie Uko, Mr Otti announced this on Monday in Abuja, shortly after a security meeting organised by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to address insecurity in the South-east.

Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator and leader of Autopilot, an IPOB subgroup, had declared a two-week sit-in in the region, beginning on July 31 and ending on August 11.

Meanwhile, Nnamdi Kanu, the jailed leader of the IPOB, instructed Mr Ekpa to stop issuing sit-at-home orders in the region in a letter sent in July through Aloy Ejimakor, his special lawyer.

Mr Ekpa, on the other hand, called the letter “fake,” claiming it was written by SSS officials rather than the IPOB commander.

The pro-Biafran activist insisted that the sit-in would continue until Mr Kanu spoke to him directly in Finland, a North European country where he (Ekpa) resides.

Mr Otti stated that his administration would not “sit and watch” the enforcers of the sit-at-home order triumph, pointing out that the civil action benefited only a few people.

The governor claimed that those enforcing the sit-in order were using terror to scare the public.

“Governments all over the world cannot be threatened,” he added, adding that “we must sound the alarm.”

“When you have work to do, you cannot afford to sit at home.” Many individuals live on a daily basis: taxi drivers, Keke riders, the woman selling pepper at the market; if she stays at home for two weeks, she would starve. As a result, it (the order) is null and void.” Mr. Otti stated.
