There is palpable tension in the University of Abuja after unknown gunmen attacked the staff quarters and abducted members of staff and some of their family members.
SurgeZirc NG reports that the attack occurred at about 1am at the senior staff quarters in Giri in Gwagwalada Area Council of the nation’s capital.
Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja Chapter, Dr Kassim Umaru, said those abducted include Professor Obansa and his son; Professor Oboscolo, his son and daughters, as well as Sambo Mohammed and Dr Tobins.
“Please, we need your prayers for their safe return,” the ASUU chairman declared.
Also, The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh confirmed the incident in a statement stated that six persons were abducted.
She further revealed that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Babaji Sunday had ordered tactical and conventional policing resources to secure the university’s area as well as the staff quarters and other associate formations of the university.

“The CP, while calling for calm, further noted that the security forces are already working with the locals in the area toward rescuing the victims. He assured that the perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book.
