As the German Bundesliga returned this weekend, table-toppers Bayern Munich ran riot against Eintracht Frankfurt, with Bayern Munich seeing off Frankfurt 5-2 on home soil at the Allianz Arena.

With this weekend’s victory, Bayern Munich restored their four-point cushion at Bundesliga summit ahead of Tuesday’s Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.

Thomas Muller and Alphonso Davies were key figures in the win over Frankfurt. The pair have been revelations for Bayern this term and both were as crucial as ever with a goal and an assist each, though their side’s defending looked porous prior to a title-deciding match against Borussia Dortmund coming up next week.

There was nothing surprising about the pattern of the first period at the Allianz Arena. However, Bayern Munich was fully deserving of their comfortable 2-0 half time lead, with the brilliant Muller setting up Leon Goretzka before getting himself on the score-sheet.

Bayern’s defensive lapses early into the second half showed a dent in the team’s armor as Martin Hinteregger scored twice in quick succession from corners after Robert Lewandoski had made it 3-0.

Davies’ cool finish in the 61st minute was followed by an own-goal from Frankfurt’s center back to seal the victory for the home team.

Bayern’s big game is on the horizon, as they go to title rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Klassiker. A victory will place them seven-points above Borussia Dortmund.
