HURIWA has petitioned the US, UK, and other World leaders in response to Tinubu’s government’s failure to arrest Asari Dokubo.
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) petitioned world leaders over the Federal Government’s inability to apprehend former Niger Delta militant leader and agitator Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, despite claimed threats to the Nigerian state and people.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA stated that the government of President Bola Tinubu is creating a monster out of Asari-Dokubo, who defied the military to arrest him and threatened to lower Nigeria’s oil production to zero.
The petition was addressed to the European Union (EU), the President of the United States of America, the French President, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, the Chancellor of Germany, and other world leaders.
HURIWA requested urgent high-level action in order for President Tinubu to order Asari-Dokubo’s arrest for claimed deadly hate speech and menace to Nigeria’s Igbo ethnic tribe.
The group accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of being terrified of Asari-Dokubo and failing to arrest him despite the ex-agitator’s warning to destroy the country if he was arrested for illegal possession of assault firearms and endangering the lives and property of Igbo people in the country.
HURIWA previously issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government to arrest Asari-Dokubo over his suspected connection to violent ‘unknown gunmen’ in the South East or risk huge protests across the country.
In a viral video, Asari-Dokubo brandished multiple AK-47 rifles and threatened to kill Igbos because they supported Labour Party’s Peter Obi in the February 25, 2023 presidential election against the ex-militant’s preferred candidate, Tinubu, the then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The petition has become necessary because, despite calls from a variety of sources, including non-governmental organisations and prominent civil rights activists, Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently ignored these calls.”

The failure of all security forces to apprehend Asari Dokubo, who allegedly displayed military grade weaponry and threatened Igbos, is a grave failure.
