English Premier League teams began non-contact team training today, but Watford’s Captain, Troy Deeney said he will not return to training because he cares more about the well-being of his family amid the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Troy Deeney, whose baby has had breathing difficulties in the past said he does not want to expose his baby. He expressed his concerns about the increased risk to Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) players.

According to the observations from the Office for National Statistics, blacks are nearly twice more likely to die from the virus than whites from English and Welsh descent.

On a YouTube show hosted by Eddie Hearn and Tony Bellew, Troy Deeney said: “It only takes one person to get infected within the group, and I don’t want to bring that home.”

“My son is only five months old, he has had breathing difficulties, so I don’t want to come home to put him in more danger.”

“We are due back this week, but I have said I’m not going back in,” Deeney added.

In an interview with Times over the weekend, Watford’s Manager, Nigel Pearson expressed his fears on the situation at hand, and he said he will not insist his players report to training.

Although Watford is not due to resume training today, the club says it respects Deeney’s decision to stay home when training resumes.
