Prominent Igbo leaders stormed the British House of Commons with a petition against Nigeria’s Muhammadu Buhari administration, citing gross injustice and extrajudicial killings against the people of Southeast, primarily the Igbos.

A representative for the Igbo leaders was seen standing at the entrance to the British House of Commons reading part of the petition to security guards in a short video clip that circulated on social media.

“It has been a long time since all of us came together in Nigeria, and we are here, this is the House of Commons and House of Lords, the mother of parliament, and this is where democracy begins… we are now bringing this letter because the problem we have in Igbo land now and the Southeast and other regions in Nigeria, we can classify that easily as genocide.

“People are being killed on a daily basis. The humiliation that Igbos and Southeasterners are going through in Nigeria is unbelievable. Young boys and young girls are marshalled out of their houses by fully armed soldiers … they go into their houses, they bring them out and they disappear without any trace, and nobody… nobody asks any question, it should stop.

“It must not be allowed to continue in this century that we live in. We are appealing to the members of the House of Commons, and we are appealing to the members of the House of Lords and we are appealing to the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain to please…

“…our knees are on the floor on behalf of our brothers and sisters who are being killed on a daily basis to please use your good offices to speak to the power that be in Nigeria, to the President of Nigeria and his government to stop the killing of the Igbos,” the rep explained before handing the letter over to the British House of Commons.”

This comes as Igbos and IPOB protest in many countries against the illegal collaboration between the Nigerian government and Kenyan authorities in picking up the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, while he was in transit to Kenya on his British passport, a move that experts say not only violates his personal human rights but also undermines the sovereignty of the United Kindom.
