IPOB group has ordered a two-week sit-at-home scheduled to take place in August, following the meeting of Southeast leaders in Abuja.

Simon Ekpa, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) faction leader, has planned a two-week sit-in in the South East. Ekpa issued a new threat of another lockdown in the hours of Wednesday.

Following the people of Biafra’s demand for more sit-at-home civil disobedience, the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) and Biafra De Facto Government In Homeland, wish to inform Biafrans that, “a sit-at-home civil disobedience will take place from July 31 to August 14, 2023,” Ekpa said.

He stated that the sit-in is being held to demand “the immediate and unconditional release of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is still illegally jailed at the DSS dungeon”.

Ekpa stated that it is also in preparation for “Biafra’s self-referendum and to further put the world on notice that Biafrans are taking their future into their own hands.”

The sit-in will thus take place in the following order: “Monday, 31 July, 2023 to Friday, 4 August 2023 and there will be total lockdown in Biafraland.”

“From Monday, 7th August to Friday, 11th August, there will be total lockdown in Biafraland, while on Saturday, 12th August and Sunday, 13th August 2023, there will be a break as all Biafran markets will open,” Ekpa explained.

“We further urge any oil companies working in Biafran territory to suspend oil exploration on these dates in order to prevent inciting the Biafran people’s wrath, which might have serious implications.”

The order to sit-at-home came hours after a closed-door gathering of South East political leaders seeking an audience with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss settling the region’s security issue.
