Speaker Yusuf Liman Dahiru revealed the 14 nominations to be examined during Tuesday’s plenary. Due to the absence of the two nominees, the screening was limited to the remaining 12 candidates.
The screening began after the Majority Leader, Ahmad Muhammad, who represents Zaria Kewaye, set aside Order 7, Rule 10, and dissolved the house into the Committee of the Whole.
The screening began with Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, a former House Speaker.
Umma Kaltume Ahmed, Mukhtar Ahmed, Arch. Dr. Ibrahim Hamza, Sule Shua’ibu, Shizzer Nasara Joy Bada, Professor Muhammad Sani Bello, Salisu Rabi, Professor Benjamin Kumari Gugong, Abubakar Bubba, Sadiq Mamman Lagos, and Murtala Muhammad Dabo are the other nominees examined.
Meanwhile, three local government chairmen have been suspended by the House of Assembly for alleged financial misconduct.
The suspension was issued on Tuesday as a result of the chairmen allegedly allocating contracts without following appropriate process as required by Section 35 Subsection 23 of the Kaduna State Public Procurement Law of 2016.
As authorised by the legislature following a decision, the ad hoc committee on investigation, chaired by Munirat Sulaiman Tanimu, representing Lere East, investigated the financial operations of five LGAs: Chikun, Kaura, Kagarko, Soba, and Birnin Gwari.
The committee requested financial documents, including bank statements from June 2022 to June 2023, Departmental Vault Account (DVA), approved budgets for 2022 and 2023, capital and recurrent expenditures for the respective years, lists of awarded contracts and their levels of completion, and other requirements from the affected chairmen.

The committee discovered that the chairmen of Kaura, Kagarko, and Chikun violated Section 48 of the Local Government Administration Law of 2018, as well as Section 35 Subsection 25 of the Kaduna State Public Procurement Law of 2016.
As a result, the committee suggested that the three chairmen quit their offices for the next six months to allow for additional inquiry, and that they not be present at the local government secretariats during the probe.
