Manchester United is taking a cautious approach to signing Rasmus Hojlund this summer, with the club reportedly unwilling to spend more than £60 million on the striker.
United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is eager to add a new center forward to the squad before the transfer window closes, and Hojlund is seen as a top priority for that position.

Rasmus Hojlund enjoyed an impressive season at Atalanta, scoring 10 goals in 34 appearances, leading to speculation about a potential move away this summer.
However, United has already made significant investments in this transfer window, spending over £100 million on Mason Mount and Andre Onana.
Consequently, they are reluctant to break the bank for Hojlund, especially considering he only has three years of senior football experience.
Atalanta values the forward at around £86 million, but the Red Devils are hopeful of securing a deal for a lower fee, closer to £60 million.
United’s financial constraints have been impacted by their absence from the Champions League last season, limiting their spending capacity.
Although ten Hag was initially given a modest £120 million summer transfer budget, it appears the club may exceed that amount, particularly if they succeed in acquiring Hojlund.
Hojlund, who was purchased by Atalanta for just £15 million last summer, is highly regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young talents, following his impressive performances in Serie A.
Manchester United sees him as a long-term solution, especially after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in January.
Furthermore, with Wout Weghorst returning to Burnley after his six-month loan spell, Hojlund’s potential arrival would address United’s striking needs.
According to reports, Hojlund is enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Old Trafford and working under Erik ten Hag, making personal terms a likely non-issue should the two clubs reach an agreement.
United is now engaged in negotiations with Atalanta, aiming to secure Hojlund’s services for a more favorable fee.
The Red Devils have a track record of successfully negotiating lower prices for players, as seen with Andre Onana, where they brought Inter Milan’s asking price down to £45 million.
However, United’s interest in strengthening their attacking options doesn’t end with Hojlund.
The club is also engaging in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt regarding Randal Kolo Muani, who impressed with 23 goals in 46 matches during the 2022/23 season.
