Part of the decision made by the party’s National Working Committee on Monday at a meeting held at the Wadata Plaza, the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The meeting, which was attended by seven NWC members and 25 of the 36 Senators elected on the PDP platform, accepted the immediate past Governor of Sokoto Aminu Tambuwal for Senate Minority Leader of the Tenth Senate.

Tambuwal was elected to the red chamber in 2023 to represent Sokoto South Senatorial District after completing his second term as governor.

The NWC, on the other hand, decided to postpone Tambuwal’s nomination until the majority of its Senators and NWC members returned to Abuja following the Sallah break.

The meeting condemned in its entirety the alleged subterranean moves by the APC to meddle in minority affairs, particularly the emergence of minority leadership, which is an exclusive reserve of the minority caucus, as expressly stipulated by constitutional provisions and Senate Standing Rules.

The PDP and Senators will continue to consult on the emergence of the minority leader in the Senate and are determined to present a unified leadership after due and conclusive considerations.

On Tuesday (today), a letter will be sent to the Senate President regarding the need for our caucus in the Senate to deliberate further and arrive at a list of officers chosen to represent the party in minority positions.
