Singer Emani Johnson, popularly called Emani 22, has died at the of age 22, her manager announced Thursday.
The R&B singer died Monday after being injured in a “tragic accident,” according to People magazine.
“It is with heavy hearts that the family of Emani has confirmed her passing,” her manager said in a statement to the magazine, adding that Johnson “fought courageously” as her medical team “went above and beyond” to try to save her.
No further details about Johnson’s cause of death were immediately available.
In a statement, producer J Maine called the Feelings singer one of a kind and said he enjoyed working with her on her 2020 album, The Color Red.
“Emani 22 was a wonderful individual that literally brightened up any room she was in,” he said. “I worked on music with her, and helped her put together her last project which was ‘The Color Red.’ The way we worked together was effortless, we just understood each other. It hurts so bad to know that the last time I saw her was the last time I’d ever see her again.”
The producer even considered Emani 22 to be “like a little sister,” adding, “she will be missed and never forgotten, and I’ll always think about the great times we had hanging out.”
