The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed death toll from the collapsed 21-storey building on Gerrard road in Ikoyi, Lagos has increased to 38.
Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of the NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye at 9 am on Thursday on Thursday morning had told journalists that 36 dead persons have been recovered from the scene of the incident.

But ten minutes later, two more bodies were recovered from the rubbles, increasing the death toll to 38.
Recall that the Lagos State government had announced the name of survivors which include one female and eight male.

SurgeZirc NG reports that operation to rescue and evacuate those trapped under the rubble of the high-rise building is still ongoing.
Families and friends of people trapped under the rubble have kept vigil at the scene, clinging onto a miracle and seeking answers, three days after the disaster.
Sanwo-Olu, who described the incident as a national disaster said: “mistakes were made from all angles.”
“This is an event that could be described clearly as a national disaster. Mistakes were made from all angles,” he said, adding that such an event “really should not be happening in a modern-day city like Lagos.”
He also condoled the families and loved ones of victims of the building collapse, assuring that there will be an investigation into the matter.
