Nigerians are currently buying electricity in bulk, in order to avoid the new tariff regime starting 1st of July. The spokesman for AEDC, claims they will allow Nigerians to dodge the new tariff regime.

We’re not sure what will happen on July 1st because some DisCos are saying they’ll raise their tariffs due to the country’s current economic situation, he stated.

As a result, we are prepared to mitigate the potential impact of this, we have agreed to acquire electrical units worth N30,000 in our property.

This will be completed on June 30th. We are now intending to have extra units for Nigerians at N20,000 because our monthly electricity purchase was previously N20,000.

Mr. Mustapha Ishaku, a user, said that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) had surreptitiously caused the power outage and new price system. He stated that he would recharge his meters ‘two times’ before the new tariff regime.

They started on the 20th of this month (June), he explained. I spent N40,000 and received 263 units at a cost of 152 each unit.

However,  in preparation for July 1, I’m hoping to recharge twice as much as I have been doing monthly by the end of the month. But I hope the story doesn’t alter tomorrow.

For customers, with a prepaid meter, we encourage you to consider purchasing bulk energy units before the end of this month as this will allow you take advantage of the current rates and potentially make savings before the new tariffs come into effect, said the Spokesman.

For those on post-paid (estimated) billing, a significant increment is imminent in your monthly billing, starting from August,” read a statement from Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
