NIS has declared a state of urgency on passport. The immigration chief declares a state of emergency due to the passport shortage.

Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, the interim Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has proclaimed a State of Emergency in response to the problem surrounding the issuance of international passportsAdepoju made the announcement on Friday in Abuja via an official statement signed by NIS spokesperson Tony Akuneme.

During her business visit to Lagos, Adepoju learned more about the difficulties Nigerians face in getting international passports, whether new or renewed.

The Ag. CGI’s visit to Lagos included significant events that highlighted the gravity of the Passport crisis, Akuneme said in a statement.

She unveiled a cutting-edge Visa on Arrival Lounge at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, proving t, indicating her dedication to bettering the overall travel experience for travelers to Nigeria.

She then paid an unplanned visit to the Alausa Passport office to assess the situation firsthand.

In her speech, Ag. CGI Adepoju emphasized the importance of removing all man-made bottlenecks that obstruct the Passport application process.

She also emphasized that NIS top management is fully committed to addressing institutional and technological shortcomings in order to ensure more efficient and streamlined service delivery.

Recognizing the importance of partnership and community participation, the Ag. CGI launched a grassroots sensitization effort aimed at traditional rulers, according to Akuneme.

She then began her campaign by paying a visit to Lagos’ Oba, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, to seek the help of traditional rulers in spreading awareness regarding highlighting the threat of human trafficking and establishing concerted efforts to battle this awful issue.

According to Akuneme, the declaration of a state of emergency on passport issues represents the NIS’s reinvigorated commitment to resolving the challenges faced by Nigerians seeking passports.

He also stated that it is a rallying cry for all stakeholders to promote efficiency, transparency, and excellence in service delivery.

Ag. CGI Adepoju had earlier directed all Passport Control Officers, relevant units and personnel within the NIS, including our Missions abroad, to work tirelessly towards eliminating all hindrances preventing Nigerians from accessing Passports promptly,” said the NIS spokesman.

According to Akuneme, the NIS is using technology and implementing strong administrative steps to improve the Passport application and issuing process.

He stated that the Ag. CGI is urging all Nigerians to be patient and work with the NIS as it takes decisive steps to address the passport situation.

She guarantees the public that arrangements are being made to ensure that every eligible Nigerian who requires a passport is granted one in a timely manner, he added.
