Ondo State PDP has asked Governor Akeredolu to resign owing to a health issue. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has called Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to resign if he is unable to discharge his duties due to his present health issues.
In a statement issued on Saturday in response to rumors of the governor’s death, the PDP said the worrying rumour was capable of anchoring the state beyond its current state, while also cautioning politicians against playing politics with the governor’s health.
The statement accused the governor’s team of withholding information about his health and whereabouts, leaving room for speculation. Kennedy Peretei, the state PDP’s spokesman, added that “it was a great disservice for the governor’s handlers to remain silent on his health status and whereabouts.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State Chapter demands that those hiding the governor reveal his location to the public in order to save the state from speculation,” the statement said.
If, for whatever reason, Akeredolu can no longer discharge his official responsibilities, the most reasonable thing to do is to hand over to the Deputy Governor, as required by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The PDP was reacting to contradicting allegations that circulated on Saturday afternoon that Akeredolu had died, which were later disproved by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, who stated in a statement that certain individuals wanted to discredit Akeredolu and make political capital out of misinformation.
