President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated in a conference with the class 1999 Governors, that he never imagined he would hold the highest office in the country.
According to Dele Alake, his spokesman, Tinubu remarked this when addressing the class of 1999 Governors in Aso Villa’s council chamber in Abuja.

The ex-governors gathered at the State House to express solidarity with Tinubu, who served as governor of Lagos State from May 1999 to 2007.
“As governors, we sat in this Council Chamber. All I desired was democracy and the country’s salvation. I never imagined myself to be President, but God almighty has brought me here, tinubu stated.
Tinubu hosts Ibori, Igbinedion, and other Governors from the Class of 1999.
He told the governors and Nigerians that he will strive for the country’s “unity, equity, stability, and prosperity.”
“I am unwavering in my support for that democratic value.” I am both overwhelmed and honoured by the number of people present. My door is always open.
You are my counsellors. We went into the pond and fought a pig. We got filthy and then cleaned up. “That’s why I’m here today,” he explained.
While emphasising that the country would not make meaningful development unless electricity was fixed, President Tinubu guaranteed that his administration will harness gas resources and explore every option to ensure steady power generation and supply.
On security, the President, who had previously met with Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum to evaluate the situation in the North East, urged Nigerians, particularly those in Plateau State, to adopt dialogue to resolve issues.

Former governors urged the President to pursue his vision for a bigger Nigeria with enthusiasm, tenacity, and resilience, expressing confidence in their support for development programmes and committing to create the required social foundation for its realisation.
“We’re here for you. We are your foot soldiers, and you may draw on our knowledge. You are a Nigerian who believes in her. Nigeria will take its place with your competent leadership,” Igbinedion, Chairman, Class of 1999, remarked.
