Senate Issues Directive To FG Over Lagos Gas Explosion

The Senate issued directives to Federal Government of Nigeria following the gas explosion that rocked the Ladipo area of Mushin, Lagos State, on Tuesday.

SurgeZirc NG reports that the fatal incident resulted in the death of five persons, with 10 others injured and 12 properties totally destroyed.

During Wednesday’s plenary, Senator Olamilekan Adeola (APC – Lagos West) raised a motion on the floor of the Senate calling for an urgent need to investigate the explosion.

After much deliberation, the Senate immediately ordered the probe of the remote and immediate causes of the explosion.

It directed its Committees on Petroleum Downstream and Gas to carry out the investigation and report back with a view to avoiding future occurrences.

The Senate also mandated the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development to immediately send relief materials to affected victims and pay medical bills of hospitalised victims.

The red chamber promises to write a condolence letter to the people and government of Lagos State on the deaths arising from the explosion.

It, however, observed a minute silence in honour of innocent Nigerians that lost their lives in the national tragedy.

Those present at the scene of incidence include personnel of NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire Service, and the police.
