Serie A Clubs Cleared To Resume Team Training

As a way to further ease the pressure on the lockdown measures, Italian Prime Minister, Conte, gave the go-ahead for teams to resume training in the Serie A  this week.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has announced that Serie A teams will now be allowed to resume group training from Monday, May 18, 2020.

Before now, Serie A teams were restricted to individual training sessions at their training bases.

As a way to further ease the pressure on the lockdown measures, Italian Prime Minister, Conte, gave the go-ahead for teams to resume training in the Serie A  this week.

While addressing the press on Saturday, May 16, 2020, he said: “Team training will resume on May 18, including football.”

The decision moves the Serie A a step closer to resumption. Furthermore, Conte said he and Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora are working on the conditions yet to be met before Serie A matches begin.

“Minister Spadafora is following this situation with great attention and is very responsible,” Conte said.

“We must all wait for the required conditions to be met in order to guarantee maximum safety for the resumption of the competition. We need an assurance on medical safety that currently we do not have,” He added.

Meanwhile, Serie A and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) are yet to agree on the medical protocols set by the government for the competition to return.

The Italian Health Department requires that an entire team be quarantined for 14days if a player tests positive for Coronavirus but the clubs and league stakeholders believe this measure would make a restart unrealistic and promote a situation where only the infected player is isolated.

The Italian Serie A was suspended after Sassuolo’s 3-0 victory over Brescia on March 9, 2020.
