Shettima’s open romance with insurgents and bandits when President Ahmed Tinubu chose him as his running mate, appears to have been validated by his recent recommendation on how to deal with these murderous groups.
Shettima’s remedy for ending the protracted struggle against insurgency and banditry is the same reason why the federal government’s efforts have been futile to yet.

Those who, like Shettima, have persisted to link Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s amnesty policy to Niger Delta militants to the north east and north west problems are just half smart.
They are being deceptive and disingenuous. It is the failure of successive governments to address their cry of environmental destruction of their farmland and rivers that has led to Niger Delta insurgency.
Unfortunately, Shettima is the vice president and in a position to influence the Tinubu administration’s approach to combating these killers.
Sadly, as vice president, he continues to retain the patronising and mistaken idea that the federal government should use a carrot and stick method.
Borno’s people, according to Mr. Shettima, now have the opportunity to present their problems to a “listening president, who would be willing to assist us with utmost dispatch, to accelerate our development.”
He promised all-encompassing “growth focused on reconciliation, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, the three R’s.

Shettima is still asking for carrots for the bandits, even when they all know that our farms have been taken over by Boko Haram and their bandits cousins, where will these endless carrots be sourced from?
