Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Thursday barred the Government House gate against late-arriving workers.
The Governor was alleged to have driven himself to Government House around 8:30 a.m., only to discover that the majority of the personnel was not in their respective offices.

At the Government House Clinic, he only encountered cleaners and one nurse. He did, however, tell the security guards to seal the gate and not allow anyone in.
According to reports, the gate remained closed until around 1pm. Many senior workers, including some of the governor’s aides, were kept out, according to sources.
While justifying his decision, Sokoto State Gov Aliyu stated, “This is not a joke. Any serious government is expected to ensure timely payment of workers’ salaries.
When I first arrived, I paid two months’ salary in three weeks. That’s why I drove myself to the office, because my drivers were late.
But I won’t tell you my next course of action because you, too, (the interviewers), will misquote me, he remarked.

I promised the people of Sokoto State that I would not betray their trust, nor would I allow any public officer to do so, the governor stated.
Either work for us or return our money. You can’t take our money unless you justify it, he remarked.
