Despite completing medical tests at Burnley, the transfer has hit a snag due to new issues surrounding the mandatory buy clause between the clubs.
Originally, the plan was for the 19-year-old Coulibaly to join Burnley on an initial season-long loan deal.
As part of the agreement, a mandatory purchase clause was included, stipulating that the transfer would become permanent at the conclusion of the upcoming season.
Borussia Dortmund would have received a fee of approximately 17.5 million euros for the player.
Coulibaly, who arrived at Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from PSG in 2021, struggled to secure regular playing time for the club.
Injuries and fierce competition within the squad limited him to just two first-team appearances. His most recent game for BVB was in a 3-3 draw against Stuttgart in the Bundesliga.
The young defender had hoped for a fresh start at Burnley under the guidance of former Manchester City center-back Vincent Kompany.
Unfortunately, his aspirations are now in jeopardy due to the potential collapse of the transfer.
With Coulibaly’s future uncertain, it remains to be seen if Borussia Dortmund will pursue the signing of a new center-back during the summer transfer window.
Currently, the club only has three natural center-backs in their first-team squad: Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle, and Mats Hummels.
