The company announced today that it is testing a “Heads Up” feature on iOS and Android that will serve as a helpful PSA. (It was mentioned on Twitter a few weeks ago that it was in the works.)

In addition to the intensity warning, there is a screen that highlights a few golden rules of online conversations: remember that there is a person on the other side; focus on facts; and consider the value of different opinions, which may help strengthen your perspective.
The Heads Up feature is an attempt to empower the company’s users, similar to Birdwatch, Twitter’s community-driven push to combat misinformation with informed context. It’s difficult to avoid toxic conversations entirely, and this is one way to avoid a potentially heated debate.
(After all, life is too short to argue with some gaming fandoms.) Of course, this isn’t a replacement for tools like its new Safety Mode, which can actually help people avoid harassment.
A rep for Twitter did not immediately return SurgeZirc Nigeria‘s request for comment on when exactly the feature will roll out.
