“I, Sylvester Turner, Mayor of the city of Houston, do hereby proclaim July 7, 2023, as Davido Day,” Mayor Turner announced proudly, recognizing the immense impact Davido has had on the music industry and his dedication to his craft.

This extraordinary recognition comes on the heels of Davido’s sold-out performance at the renowned Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The Mayor’s proclamation serves as a testament to the artist’s undeniable talent and ability to captivate audiences around the world.

Davido, an iconic figure in the Nigerian music scene, expressed his gratitude for this prestigious honor by sharing a copy of the proclamation on his Instastory, showcasing the magnitude of this accomplishment.

Houston’s decision to honor Davido follows in the footsteps of a similar tribute paid to another Nigerian music superstar, Wizkid. In 2019, Wizkid made history as the first African artist to sell out the Skyway Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

As a result, Governor Mark Dayton declared October 6th as “Wizkid Day” in Minnesota, further cementing the impact of African artists on the global stage.

Despite recent controversies surrounding allegations of impregnating three women, Davido continues to make waves both locally and internationally.

His relentless efforts to promote Nigerian afrobeats music have positioned him as a leading advocate for the genre, pushing its boundaries and ensuring its recognition on the world stage.
