According to a notification posted on the Richmond Public Schools website, the shooting occurred in the park following the graduation ceremony. All district schools will be closed on Wednesday, and all high school graduations this week have been canceled, according to the statement.
Initially, the university said the gunshot was part of a “active threat” on campus. “There is no ongoing threat to the community,” school administrators subsequently stated in a campus advisory, “but there is a heavy police presence at Monroe Park.”
