The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that National Identification Number (NIN) will be compulsory for the registration of its school certificate examination.
The Council disclosed this in a memo signed and dated on the 5th of November, 2021.

The memo directs all Zonal Coordinators, WAEC branch controllers and other officers in charge , to sensitise all school Proprietors, Principals, their candidates and all stakeholders on the new development.
According to the memo : “The Federal Government of Nigeria through its Ministry of Education has mandated the Council to commence the capturing of National Identification Numbers(NIN) during the registration of its candidates.
“To this end, Management have directed all Zonal Coordinators, Branch Controllers and Officers in charge of officers to sensitise all schools( Principals and Proprietors)
“Candidates and all stakeholders in their areas of jurisdiction on this new development.”
“For emphasis only, Candidates with National Identification Numbers (NIN) would be eligible to register for WASSCE (SC) or WASSCE (PC).

“It is important that all stakeholders are sensitized early enough as registration for WASSCE would soon begin.”
