The police have stated why Prince Kpokpogri, Tonto Dikeh’s ex-boyfriend, was arrested and detained.
According to Vanguard, police officials at the Force headquarters in Abuja denied that Kpokpogri was detained at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja because Tonto Dikeh and DIG Joseph Egbunike, the DIG in command of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Bureau, are friends.
Instead, Kpokpogri was accused of circumventing police authorities by hiring two police officers from Maitama Police Station, transporting them to Transcorp Hotel, and threatening to shoot Tonto Dikeh unless she handed over the keys to an SUV to him.
According to the publication:
“They blocked a vehicle that was packed there and stayed till 6 am. Kpokpogiri’s driver said he gave the keys to the vehicle to Tonto Dikeh but Prince Kpokpogiri alleged the car was stolen.”

One of the police officers allegedly pointed his revolver at Tonto Dikeh’s head during the chaos and dispute that ensued, causing the Security team of Transcorp to contact the Inspector General of Police.
According to reports, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has asked the FCIIB’s DIG in charge to investigate the case. CP Umar Sanda, the Commissioner of Police in Charge Administration at Force CID, and several police operatives were dispatched to the location by DIG Egbunike.
Prince Kpokpogiri was said to have become enraged and was hurling insults and curses at police officers, despite repeated requests for him to calm down.
DIG Egbunike ordered Kpokpogri’s arrest, as well as the arrests of the police officers that accompanied him to the hotel.

Vanguard reported that the “police said the arrest is to enable him to regain his sanity, after which he would be questioned on the issue about ownership or otherwise on the vehicle in question.”
The arrest was confirmed by DIG Joseph Egbunike, who informed the publication:
“Yes, I called my CP Sanda Umar, CP Administration who despatched officers to arrest them. He (Kpokoogiri) became insulting and uncontrollable. I ordered his detention to enable him to calm down. Besides, he has a pending petition against him which CP Sanda Umar is investigating.”
