Wike Reveals G5 Candidate Supported For Senate President, against his party’s wishes,  calling PDP Powerless.

Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has revealed the candidates he and other G5 members backed to become the presiding officers of the 10th National Assembly.

During a news conference on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, Wike stated that they all endorsed Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abbas for Senate President and House Speaker, respectively.

The immediate past Rivers State Governor explained why he endorsed Akpabio for the number three position in the country, saying that aside from his qualification and competence for the role, Akpabio also supported him while he was running for Governor.

He went on to say that the G5 couldn’t Stop their support for the candidates in the middle, claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can’t question him.

Wike further stated that the 10th National Assembly will not be a rubber stamp legislative body, expressing trust in Akpabio’s abilities. In his opinion, a friendly relationship between the executive and legislative branches of government does not imply a ‘rubber stamp’ assembly.

According to him, Akpabio’s election as Senate President from the South-South is “clear testimony that Nigerians are interested in the unity of the country.”

He went on to say that President Bola Tinubu has also demonstrated that he will not allow the country to become polarized.

“I don’t think Akpabio will be rubber-stamped.” I also I also backed him since he had supported me when I ran for Governor.

“Akpabio is a knowledgeable, qualified, and educated individual.” He is a gifted orator who can represent the United States wherever. What more certifications do you require?

Rivers State and the G5 Governors all supported Akpabio because we couldn’t stop our support midway, he explained.

According to Nigerian News The G5 refers to the five former and current governors who rejected the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential nominee for the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, due to differences with the party’s zoning scheme.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is among them, as are former governors Wike, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Okezie Ikpeaz of Abia.
