Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid is the winner of MTV Europe Music Awards’ Best African Act of the year.
Recall the nominee list was announced earlier this year, with names like Tems, Diamond Platnumz, Amaarae, and Focalistic on the list of possible winners.

Congratulating the Nigerian international act for his win, organizers of the event via their Instagram handle, @mtvbaseafrica, wrote, “HUGE congratulations to BIG WIZ @wizkidayo for winning Best African Act! From Lagos to the world #MTVEMA #StarBoyHQ.”
Wizkid also used his Instagram story to share a video snippet of the category’s winning announcement.

Wizkid began recording music at the age of 11 and released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he and a couple of his church friends formed.
He signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2019. Wizkid later rose to the limelight after releasing “Holla at Your Boy”, the lead single from his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also spawned the singles “Tease Me/Bad Guys” and “Don’t Dull”.
