The All Progressive Congress (APC) has disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, 2020, that it has appointed Dr Ita Udosen as acting state chairman in Akwa Ibom after the sudden passing of the state chairman, Mr Ini Okopido.

In the statement released by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr Nkereuwem Enyongekere in Uyo, it was revealed that Udosen was appointed during an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party in Uyo.

The statement read “Following the sudden, sad and devastating transition of our Chairman, Late Ini Okopido on Aug.5, 2020, the State Working Committee (SWC), of our part met in an emergency session at the state party secretariat and resolved as follows:

“That based on Article 14.2 Section iii of the Party’s Constitution, the Deputy Chairman of the Party, Dr Ita Udosen, should hereby assume the position of the Acting Chairman henceforth”.

Previously, the APC disclosed that the Okopido died on Wednesday following a brief illness. His death was reportedly described as the passing of “an extraordinary leader and a grassroots politician”.

“With the said resolution of the SWC today, Aug. 6, 2020, Dr Ita Udosen, the State Deputy Chairman is hereby appointed as the Acting State Chairman effective Thursday, Aug.6, 2020,” it added.
