The Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the country’s COVID-19 second phase of the eased lockdown extension by four more weeks.

The move was announced on Thursday, August 6, 2020, by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

The current extension is the third for the second phase of the relaxed lockdown. Recall, the members of the PTF held a meeting on Wednesday, Aug.5, 2020, with the President Buhari, to discuss the ongoing measures proposed to cap the spread of the coronavirus known as COVID-19.

Mustapha reported that Buhari approved the extension of the second phase of the eased national lockdown after some commendations by the PTF members. According to Mustapha, new guidelines have been proposed to achieve the gradual re-opening of international air flights and rail transportation within established parameters.

He also noted that the current nationwide curfew from 10 pm- 6 am will remain for the next four weeks under the revised measures of the relaxed lockdown.

The proposed measures also state that passengers arriving for domestic flights can now arrive at least an hour and a half before the flight, and three hours before the flight for international travelers, reported Mustapha.

Meanwhile, the prohibition on entertainment centres remain and meetings for government officials and parastatals will continue to hold virtually
