The Ebonyi state governor David Umahi has condemned the call for sack of the service chiefs. This comes after the National Assembly had urged President Muhammadu Buhari to dismiss the service chiefs if they refuse to resign.
Umahi said the military needs more funds and support while addressing in Abakaliki on Friday during the groundbreaking ceremony of Nigerian Army Reference Hospital. The governor also stated that the service chiefs are dedicated to protecting the territorial integrity of the country.

“I want to disagree with the National Assembly in my own view about the change of service chiefs. One thing I have realised is that we like to change too much in this country. We want everybody to taste every seat,” he stated.
The governor further said that they need to work together with the security agencies during this difficult time. He also said what the service chiefs need is more information from the public and more capital and logistics support from the government.
“Without undermining the former inspectors general, this Inspector General is a very different human being. He is stubborn about the policies and laws of the land. And that is the person this country needs. The Chief of Army staff is also a very committed person. Very friendly to the civil society,” he added.

Umahi recommended that the government should increase the funding of the armed forces, improve the programme that will provide information to the security agencies, and increase their logistics.
“So I support Mr President that instead of changing the service chiefs to rather increase their funding and increase the frequency of his meetings with them. And also encourage civil society to come up with information that will assist the security agencies,” concluded the governor.
