INEC Says 484,000 Electorates Failed To Collect PVCs

Due to the outbreak of the global pandemic, the commission has not been able to continue with the distribution of PVCs since the 2019 election. However, it has announced that there have been calls for uncollected PVCs to be distributed before the forthcoming poll in Edo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 484,000 of the registered electorates did not collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the Edo governorship election scheduled to take place on September 19.

The commission has disclosed that out of the 2.2 million recorded electorates for the poll, only 1.72 million collected their PVCs. Consequently, only 484 people who did not collect theirs will not be able to exercise the right to vote.

Furthermore, an information booklet that was published on Thursday revealed that there are 2,627 voting units across 192 wards where polling is anticipated to take place. The INEC revealed that only 14 aspirants who will be contesting are males, while two are females.

Moreover, it also noted that the upcoming poll would be the first major election, the INEC would be conducting amid the coronavirus pandemic, however, it has assured a safe environment for the voters.
