A candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ondo governorship election, Mr. Banji Okunomo has resigned his membership from the party.

The aspirant announced his resignation on Monday, September 7, 2020, in Okitipupa. Okunomo disclosed to journalists that he would defect to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), authoritatively with no less than 15,000 members through the 18 local government areas, at a later date.

“I am appealing to my followers to be calm as my defection from PDP to ZLP is for the good of the people of Ondo South and the entire state,” he said. According to reports, Okunomo came fifth at the state PDP primary election that took place on July 22 in Akure.

The primary election produced by Mr. Eyitayo Jegede as the party’s flag bearer in the governorship poll scheduled to take place on October 10.

Moreover, reports revealed that the aspirant’s defection might be related to the choice of Mr. Ikengboju Gboluga, Member representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, as Jegede’s running mate.
