The All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concern over the Sep 19 governorship election results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, September 20, 2020.
This came after the commission had earlier announced the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Godwin Obaseki as the winner of the Edo governorship race after securing 307,955 votes, while Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC lost the battle with 223,619 votes.

However, the APC has rejected Obaseki’s victory, claiming there has been a foul play in the election; adding that some of the figures announced were fabricated. The party also revealed that some of its members were arrested randomly during the poll.
While rejecting the results of the poll in a brief statement, the Chairman of the APC Media Campaign Council, John Mayaki advised supporters to stay calm while the party leaders determine the next move. The APC also alleged that the results of the poll were tampered with.
“Areas where we won, they canceled them. They decreased the votes in areas we had advantages. They rejected our results and jerked up theirs,” he said.

The APC also accused Governor Obaseki of diverting INEC’s attention during the poll, saying the governor “shouted that he was being rigged out and blamed INEC at the initial stage but that was to divert attention from the evil going on in the field.”
The party’s statement validates its candidate’s position in the election. It would be recalled that Ize-Iyamu has previously announced his eagerness to study the election results, adding that he will announce his next move with his supporters.
