Amazon has announced the launch of the AWS AppFabric to help organizations link the various applications they use.

Amazon’s AWS AppFabric is a codeless service designed to act as a link between Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) apps in enterprise environments.

According to Amazon, the AppFabric, which will be available starting today, will be able to provide improved management and security than its already existing rivals.

“With AppFabric, we’re enabling customers to actually get assistance and get access to information at the right time.”

Federico Torreti, the head of product for AppFabric, said during a briefing.

“Companies don’t need to worry about building and maintaining connections between various apps,” he added.

Customers will be able to connect their third-party apps from the AWS console to enable a unified access to the apps’ usage and performance.

Once connected, AppFabric will supply standardized data and cross-app workflows, aggregating and normalizing data.

This it will achieve using AWS’ Open Cybersecurity Schema Framework. This platform allows for it to be analyzed for security threats, patterns, and more.

AppFabric can also help its users policies across apps and also monitor apps for suspicious activity, notifying the appropriate team through prompt alerts.

Certainly, due to the SaaS app collapse, there’s a need for orchestration and management layers like AppFabric.

The problem of linking apps in-house has led to third-party platforms, known as integration-platforms-as-a-service (iPaaS), that help abstract away the work.

According to poll released by TeamDynamix and IDG, iPaaS is one of the fastest-growing software markets, with projections to reach $2.7 billion by next year.

When asked what AppFabric provides that its rivals don’t, Torreti explained:

“If [a company is] using a third-party service that enables two-point integrations, there’s two questions there,” he said.

“One is around the security of what happens with the data — the transferring of data. And the second is the ‘busyness’ of the solutions.

“I think customers have come to appreciate AWS’ infrastructure offerings.”

AppFabric’s other potential differentiator is set to be released later this year.

In the coming months, AppFabric will get an AI assistant run by models developed at AWS as a part of Amazon’s Bedrock generative AI platform.

The assistant have the ability to complete a range of tasks like surfacing insights and creating content based on context generated from different SaaS apps.

Meanwhile, AppFabric rivals are have been running experiments with generative AI, as well.

Zapier, for instance, recently launched what it refers to as natural language actions, which use commands and AI to execute actions across apps.

Trying to solidify his claims on what the AWS AppFabric brings to the table and its rivals do not, Torreti continued:

“We’re going to help customers to reimagine productivity using generative AI,” he said.

“And we can help customers elevate and control security posture as they think about apps that they’re using.
