According to Chicago-based Media Company, The Athletic, the NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, and the league’s office has informed the board of directors that they have set their eyes on July 31st for the restart of the 2019/2020 NBA season.
The league made known its plans during the Board of Directors meeting on Friday, with four scenarios discussed on how to complete the NBA season which was suspended on March 11 due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
Of the four scenarios, one depicted the probability of having the remainder of the regular season canceled by the NBA. If this event takes place, the top 16 teams in the standings when the season is canceled would head straight into the playoffs.
A second scenario pictures all 30 teams reaching 72 games before conducting a full post-season.
The NBA is also planning a restart with as many as about 20 or 22 teams involved, with the final few playoff spots to be determined by either a play-in tournament or by group-stage play just like the FIFA World Cup format.
