As the call to vote a presidential candidate that will unite Nigeria heightens, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, who adopted “unifier” as a title in the claim that he is the only person in the race that can unify the divided country has stated that the North does not require candidates from the South in the 2023 elections.

This was stated by Atiku during an Interactive Session With Arewa Joint Committee held on Saturday in Kaduna State, in response to a question posed to him by the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed.

Northerners, he claims, should vote for him rather than a Yoruba or Igbo candidate because he is a Pan-Nigerian of northern origin.

Responding to a question from Baba-Ahmed who asked the presidential candidate why Northerners should vote for him, Atiku said “What the average Northerner needs is somebody who’s from the north and also understands that part of the country and has been able to build bridges across the country.

“This is what the Northerner needs, it doesn’t need a Yoruba or Igbo candidate, I stand before you as a Pan-Nigerian of northern origin.”
