Threads, the new text-based conversation app from Meta, is gaining incredible traction, with co-founder Mark Zuckerberg reporting 10 million signups within seven hours of its launch.

However, the app has an intriguing requirement that has caught users by surprise: Deleting a Threads account will result in the termination of the linked Instagram account.
Meta explains in its ‘Supplemental Privacy Policy’ that while users can deactivate their Threads profile at any time the action will result in deleting the associated Instagram account.
This stipulation is based on the understanding that the Threads profile is a part of the user’s Instagram account.
Threads, positioned as a prominent competitor to Twitter, was launched by Instagram, the widely popular photo-sharing platform with over 2 billion users.
The app was rolled out to users in more than 100 countries on Wednesday and has quickly become one of the most sought-after alternatives to Twitter.
Zuckerberg expressed his astonishment at the app’s success, stating that it attracted 10 million signups within just seven hours.
He even shared an emoji to convey his amazement at the reception. This rapid growth makes Threads the fastest-growing consumer offering in recent times.

Notably, prominent brands such as Netflix, Amazon, NFL, and Pepsi have shown their confidence in Threads by signing up for the app.
However, some major names, including Google, Apple, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Disney, are absent from the platform, at least as of the time of this publication.
The requirement to delete an Instagram account in order to delete a Threads profile has raised eyebrows among users.
