The German Football League (DFL), has confirmed it will not sanction German Bundesliga Clubs whose players do not keep social distance during goal celebrations.
Questions on this issue came up after Hertha Berlin’s Dedryck Boyata planted a kiss on the cheek of team-mate Marko Grujic during their 3-0 away victory over Hoffenheim as the Bundesliga returned to action yesterday.

The act by Boyata seemed inappropriate as the substitutes wore face-masks and sat at significant distances away from each other on the sidelines.
The spokesperson of the DFL in a statement, said: “The goal celebrations by the players are not part of the medical organizational concept of the Taskforce Sports Medicine/Special League Operation which was added to the DFL rulebook on Thursday.”
Furthermore, he said that: “Regarding goal celebrations, they only gave advice as an orientation to the concept, therefore sanctions are void.”
In support of the statement released by the German Football League (DFL), Hertha Berlin’s coach Bruno Labbadia said: “Goal celebrations are part of football. We have been tested so often that I think you can allow it. It would be a shame if we weren’t allowed to celebrate more.”

“I hope people out there understand that it is just a recommendation from the DFL to hold back. We have tested negative six times, most recently on Friday. Emotions are part of the game, otherwise, we don’t need to play.” he said.
As the Bundesliga resumed on Saturday after a long break due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus Pandemic, some players kept their distance after scoring while others celebrated their goals by touching elbows.
