The Governor of Gombe State suspended the ban on worship centers across the state on Thursday amid COVID-19 escalation in Nigeria. The announcement was made after Governor Yahaya held a meeting with religious leaders in the state.

He said he made the decision after the religious leaders promise to comply with all health directives on coronavirus in the state.

Yahaya said further that members of the religious group will undergo rigorous training by the state task force for proper measures in handling and preventing the spread of the virus within their jurisdiction.

Prof. Idris Mohammed who was the Chairman of the State’s Taskforce on COVID-19 has appealed to citizens of Gombe to regularly observe all the directives of government on COVID-19 which include washing of hands, observing social distancing and the use of sanitizers and facemasks.

However, Governor Yahaya warned that worship centers can be on lockdown again should the religious leaders fail to comply with the directives of the government.
