Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, has recently reinstated the account of popular producer Kanye West.

Kanye West, who now goes by the name Ye, had his account banned last year for posting a controversial picture that merged a Swastika with the Star of David.

The ban occurred in December, a few months after Elon Musk took control of the platform.

Ye caused a storm of controversy by posting a series of antisemitic comments and sharing an image that violated the social network’s rules.

While he also posted an unflattering picture of Musk at that time, the Tesla CEO clarified that the rapper-producer’s ban was unrelated to that particular post.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Ye’s account will not be eligible for monetization, and ads will not appear next to his posts.

X recently introduced an ad revenue-sharing program for global creators, but to be eligible, creators must have at least 500 followers and receive 15 million impressions over the previous three months.

Ye’s account was restored only after he gave assurances that he would refrain from posting antisemitic content or using hateful language.

This decision was reportedly made following discussions with an unnamed person familiar with the matter.

Elon Musk, who identifies as a “free-speech absolutist,” has been known to make controversial decisions about reinstating certain accounts on X (Twitter) since taking over the platform.

Notable figures include former U.S. President Donald Trump, far-right influencer Andrew Tate, who was banned for misogynistic comments, and right-wing academic Jordan Peterson.

Recently, Twitter received criticism for restoring the account of Dominick McGee, who had posted an image of child sexual abuse.

As X continues to navigate its policies on content moderation and account reinstatements, it faces ongoing challenges in balancing free speech principles with the responsibility to ensure a safe and respectful online environment for its users.
