Four Nigerian doctors and 18 nurses have tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday in Bauchi and Niger States. According to reports, the doctors and six health workers were confirmed positive in Bauchi, while most of the nurses were working with health centers in Niger State.

Dr. Rilwan Mohammed, who’s the Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA) confirmed that the Nigerian doctors tested positive for the deadly and highly infectious disease.
Dr. Rilwan Mohammed revealed the current status of the doctors during a news conference at the Bauchi State Government House, on Wednesday.
“So many doctors and nurses are getting infected in that area and their families are also infected and we have to follow their families up.
“The health workers who have tested positive include four doctors, six other health workers, including some nurses. Some of them are in Bauchi while some are in Azare but we have a higher number of them in the Azare zone,” Dr. Mohammed said.
Kano State National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives also confirmed that 18 nurses tested positive for the coronavirus. Ibrahim Maikarfi Muhammad, who’s the state chairman of the said association revealed that 86 samples of nurses were taken and results of 18 persons came out positive.

Ibrahim Maikarfi Muhammad, however, confirmed that 9 of the coronavirus victims are from National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala, while 7 are from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and two from state-run hospitals.
The Chairman has appealed to the government to ensure that health professionals get enough Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and on time to avoid putting their lives at risk while trying to save other lives.
