The Governor of Rivers, Chief Nyesom Wike has cleared the air on why he placed the state capital, Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government under strict lockdown.

Wike claimed that his action was aimed at protecting residents of both local government areas from the coronavirus pandemic and not getting at anyone in particular as some claim.

While on a live Radio Rhythm FM Port Harcourt program, Gov. Wike who spoke on phone into the program said the action by his administration was meant to check the spread of the coronavirus.

“We have to lock down Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor local government areas in the interest of our people. While individuals feel it, the state government is also affected because it loses revenue. But lives must be protected,” Wike said.

Wike thereby encouraged the people of Rivers State to go deeper in prayer for the success of his administration at this challenging time.

According to the Rivers State Governor, the coronavirus outbreak has proven that agriculture and health are key while assuring the people that his administration would work towards growing both areas.
